INFOCUS is an annual meeting created in 2003 in Brazil to be a forum for discussion of trends in the epidemiology of fungal infections in Latin America, to update our attendees in the main pathophysiological mechanisms of fungal diseases, as well as to critically review all recent innovations in the field of diagnosis and antifungal treatment of mycoses highly prevalent in our region.

After 16 successful editions of INFOCUS that were hosted in 5 different countries in Latin America, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru, INFOCUS became the most comprehensive and relevant meeting in the field of Medical Mycology in Latin America. In 2016, INFOCUS was organized in Santiago, in parallel with the annual meeting of the Immunocompromised Host Society (ICHS). In 2019, INFOCUS Latin America will be hosted in Salvador and, by the first time, our scientific program will be organized in collaboration with our friends from ISHAM that gave us the opportunity to create the first ISHAM regional meeting for Latin America in synergy with INFOCUS.

INFOCUS is a meeting delineated for medical mycologists, microbiologists, epidemiologists, infectious diseases specialists, oncologists, transplant physicians, intensivists, and all other health care workers and students interested in Medical Mycology. In the last 3 editions, INFOCUS had the active participation of more than 500 attendees, including graduate students, health care workers from reference medical centers and Universities form Latin America, key leaders in the field of medical mycology, and representatives of the most relevant companies committed with the developing of new diagnostic and therapeutic tools for combating fungal infections.

In this scenario, INFOCUS became not only a comprehensive meeting for discussion of epidemiology, physiopathology and best clinical practices for the clinical management of fungal infections, but also a place for people interested in creating networks and collaborations in the field of Medical Mycology.
